The Colorful Side of Curacao

Colorful Curacao!

Curacao is all about color, above and below the water. Of all the islands in the Caribbean, Curacao is one of the most stylish, and certainly, one of the most colorful.

Dutch Architecture

The now colorful gabled buildings that line the Willemstad, Curacao harbor were once all white. In 1817, the local governor complained that the sun’s glare off the buildings gave him a headache, so he ordered them painted. What a great decision that was!

Authentic Curacao Liqueur

Say Curaçao or kur-a-sow, and your mind’s eye points you promptly to this blue-colored liqueur. Most necessary fun fact for your trip to the Caribbean’s best kept secret: this liqueur is produced from a very bitter orange, unpalatable even to the indiscriminate wild goats of the island.

Curacao’s Underwater World

Curaçao might be one of the few places on Earth where the colors above the water are more vibrant than those below. Curaçao’s reefs surround the island attaching to the shore like a narrow fringe. These beautiful gardens of delicate corals are home to a rainbow of marine life.

Animals Curacao

Although Curaçao has a relatively small variety of land animals, a surprising number of species are unique to the island. You’ll also find several species of iguana, light green in color with shimmering shades of aqua along the belly and sides, lounging in the sun here and there.
